The late rapper DMX will be honored by his family and friends in Brooklyn, New York, after passing away of a heart attack. Here’s all the details we know.
DMX‘s hometown of New York will hold a memorial service for the late rapper on April 24. It comes just a couple of weeks after the legendary musician died on April 9 at the age of 50. He suffered a heart attack one week prior, and sadly never recovered. He will be mourned at a memorial attended by family and close friends at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Here’s everything we know about the service.
Where will the memorial be held?
The memorial will be held for DMX at the Barclays Center in New York. The event will be closed to the public, with only close friends and family able to attend due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. New York State is currently limiting indoor arenas to 10 per cent capacity, however thousands are expected to gather outside the arena, where there will be a significant police presence.
The hip hop legend’s casket travelled from Yonkers to the Barclay’s Center, earlier in the day. It was led by hundreds of motorcycles, while his bright red coffin was placed on top of a monster truck, which was adorned with “Long Live DMX” on the side.

DMX suffered a heart attack at his New York home around 11pm on April 1, and was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, NY, where he was put in critical care. DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman, confirmed the sad news. “I received a call this morning that Earl Simmons was in the hospital, at the White Plains Hospital, and that he had had a heart attack, and I’m not sure how it was induced and that he’s on life support,” he told ABC on April 3.
One week later, a rep for the musician said in a statement that DMX had passed away. “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” the statement read. “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him.” Here’s everything we know about a possible memorial. Our thoughts are with DMX’s friends, family and fans.
